Divorce

Divorce Part 4

When a sexual union is made outside of the marriage, another one flesh union is created which is opposed to the ordained one flesh and fights against the unity it was created to achieve, often causing hurt, division and ultimately divorce

1Co 6:15-20 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, The two will become one flesh. But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit. Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your body.

The devil hates marriage with a passion because he knows the full implications of it and this is evident in the amount of resources he has put into either stopping it altogether, replacing it with a fake copy or turning it into a weapon and reward system rather than for the holy union it was created to achieve.

This is why God hates divorce, and even in the event of one partner being unfaithful, it is far better to attempt forgiveness and reconciliation before heading straight for the divorce lawyer.

The Bible is clear that any reason other than fornication is not grounds for divorce when two Christians are married. If the marriage breaks down to such an extent that you are unable to live together, then you may live apart, however then your only options are to stay unmarried or otherwise be reconciled to your existing spouse.

If you are in an abusive relationship and if you are in danger then the absolute right decision is to separate. Marital abuse is something that is taken far more seriously than it used to be and there is help available from various charities and government agencies. However, being unhappy does not give you the option to re marry. If you do, it is counted by God as adultery.

1Co 7:11  But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife.
