Tithing Part 6

The principle remains

Although tithing is not taught for the church in the new testament, the principle does remain but the principle is not giving 10% of your goods, the principle is Obedience To God which includes not going back under law (including tithing) when Christ gave his life to redeem you from the curse of the law.

Gal 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. 11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. 12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. 13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree

 

The Dark Side of Tithing Teaching

There are some pastors who genuinely believe that the tithing system is still in place today and continue to teach it for that reason. Their heart is good but their study depth and doctrine isn't. There are other pastors who know full well that the scriptures do not support tithing for today's church but continue to teach it regardless in order to guarantee a minimum income for their church.

The third type are the prosperity teachers, some (not all) of whom have the morals of a rattlesnake and their aim is to stockpile as much cash as they can by profiting from either very desperate or very greedy people who are easily led and will pretty much believe anything they are taught.

The problem with this concept is that they are writing people cheques that God hasn't signed and when the people find the cheque won't clear, they blame God and begin to doubt his word.

The more extreme end of this doctrine teaches that in exchange for tithing & extra financial gifts made to certain ministries you can demand a blessing of cars, houses and extreme wealth from the almighty, command angels to go and fetch your money like a firm of celestial couriers and a host of other questionable if not heretical concepts. Of course if any of these principles don't work it's because of either lack of faith or insufficient tithing.

Some of these extreme doctrines either directly teach or at least imply that tithing can affect your salvation, your health or your lifespan and if you are not tithing you are fair game for satan, you loose God's protection over your life and many more unscriptural ideas besides.

The more extreme the teaching, the further away from scripture backing it goes until ultimately the teacher is relied upon as the truth rather than the real truth found in the Bible.
Often showing no mercy, they will demand you pay your tithe with your grocery money or your kids lunch money if necessary to avoid God reigning down curses upon your head as per Deuteronomy 28..

2Pe 2:1-3 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them-- bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.
