Eternal Security
Introduction
When you talk to Christians today, you find that a large number are living in fear that although they have been truly born again by believing on Jesus and accepting him as their Lord and Saviour, their salvation is far from secure. They believe that unless they continue to obey Gods commands every day, sin may get the better of them and they will end up losing their salvation because of their actions, although none of them can tell you what the tipping point is for damnation. Then another group have the attitude that because Jesus has paid for all the sins of the world that they can live however they like because it makes no difference
In this article we will see if either of these standpoints are correct as we ask the question; "Is it possible that even though you have believed on Jesus and been born again, you can still mess up so bad that you can make Him change His mind about you, take back the gift of salvation he gave you and consign you to the lake of fire instead."
The New Life
When you are a born again believer, God expects you to start acting like one. The purpose of the Christian life is to be conformed to the image of Jesus because we are going to represent Him to the people around us.
Gal 1: 15-16 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace, To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:
We become a part of the kingdom of God as soon as we are born again and we are now ambassadors for our new King and His Kingdom. Many churches organize some form of outreach which may be door to door witnessing, social events or activities designed to preach the good news to unbelievers directly or indirectly but the best form of evangelism is the revelation of Jesus in you so that you are behaving differently to non believers and they can sense there is something different about you, especially if they knew you before you were born again.
The righteousness of Christ that is in you should start to influence what you do, meaning that in any situation your actions should be those of someone representing Christ. The gift of grace promotes a sense of gratitude which in turn leads you away from sin and towards godliness, not for the purpose of you salvation but simply because you love Jesus so much for what He's done for you that you want to do what he wants above what you want. If you think grace encourages you to sin then you don't understand grace.
