Eternal Security

The Mechanics of Salvation

When you first believed, quite a few things happened, in fact it's a long list but we'll look at seven of them to get a general idea of the process.

1  The Holy Spirit took you and baptised you into the body of Christ, making you a member of the body of Christ (1 Cor 12:13-14)

2  Your old nature was put to death with Christ on the cross (Gal 2:20).

3  Your new nature was raised in newness of life in Christ. (Col 3:1)

4  You are dead to sin and alive to Christ (Rom 6:11)

5  The Holy Spirit came and indwelt you. (1 Cor 2:12) (Rom 8:9)

6  You were transferred out of satans domain into the Kingdom of God (Col 1:13)

7  You were given as a gift from the Father to Jesus (John 17)

All of the things that happen at the point of salvation are accomplished by works, but not the works of the person who just believed. The believer who is now just one second into their new life in Christ has no idea of the mechanics of what just happened.

Conditional security teaches that a man can be saved, then remain saved for a period of time but then lose his salvation and be damned to the lake of fire after all. This would mean that God would have had to do all these things knowing that in a few years time this believer would lose their salvation. In that case all these things would have to be reversed.

1 The Father must take back the gift He gave to Jesus
2 You must be transferred out of the kingdom of heaven back into the kingdom of darkness
3 The Holy Spirit must leave you
4 You must be made dead to Christ and alive to sin
5 You must be put to death in Christ and resurrected in your old sin nature
6 You must be removed from the body of Christ leaving the body with parts missing and not perfect as intended.

So after God has said nothing can separate us from the love of Christ and no one can pluck us out of His hand, we will be separated from the love of Christ and plucked out of His hand as a result of our own actions.
